iTherapy is a speech pathology corporation founded in 2012 by two practicing clinicians who saw problems in their field and decided to solve them. We are not a tech startup that read some papers about speech therapy. We are not a clinical practice that bought some software. We are practicing clinicians who build technology and use it every day with real children and families.
A Clinical Practice
We provide direct speech-language pathology services to children and families across California. This is not a legacy business we are trying to phase out. It is half of our identity and the proving ground for everything we build.

We create tools that address real problems we experienced as clinicians. EASI exists because we spent too many weekends writing reports. InnerVoice exists because we saw a child learn in a new way and wondered if we could scale that discovery.
A Community Voice
We publish Autism Digest, a magazine written by and for the autism community. We employ autistic team members and work with autistic consultants. This is not corporate social responsibility. It is how we believe good work gets done.

VAST harnesses the power of video self-modeling to help individuals with autism and apraxia learn to speak. When we discovered that a child could learn by imitating himself rather than the therapist, everything changed. This discovery became the foundation for all our technology and the origin of iTherapy.

The Discovery
Two SLPs at a non-public school discovered that a child with echolalia could learn by imitating himself rather than the therapist. Using Motion Portrait, we created something unprecedented that would change everything.
Mensa Recognition
This insight won the Mensa Foundation's Intellectual Benefit to Society Award. Motion Portrait agreed to build the first version of InnerVoice, turning a therapeutic observation into real technology.

CEO and Co-Founder
With more than 30 years as a speech-language pathologist, Lois serves as Principal Investigator on NSF and NIH grants. She is the publisher of Autism Digest, a Certified Autism Specialist, and author of multiple books including 'Apps for Autism.' She serves on the Board of Directors for the United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (USSAAC).
Matthew Guggemos, M.S., CCC-SLP
CTO and Co-Founder
A licensed SLP and technology architect, Matthew serves as CTO and Co-Investigator on multiple federal SBIR grants from NSF, NIH, and IES. He was invited to speak at the National Academies Workshop on AI and Neuroscience in 2024. He is co-publisher of Autism Digest, serves on the Board of Trustees for the Mensa Foundation, and is a board member of the American Society for AI.
